Module 1: IC - Individual Change
Module 2: TC - Team Change
Module 3: OC - Organisational Change

Organised by the University of Cambridge Centre for Technology Management, this annual two day Symposium, now in its thirteenth year, is a firm fixture for those at the forefront of new ideas and practical application in the field. Aimed principally at an audience of senior technology and innovation managers from companies of all sizes, it draws on leading practice and research to address the current key issues in an international context.

This year's theme: Successful innovation in an uncertain world Sources of uncertainty in the contemporary business world abound - climate change, resource constraints, demographic shifts, political instability, disruptive technologies - to name but a few.

In face of this, businesses strive to identify new opportunities for growth based on innovation in technology and business models. Convergence of technology (info, nano, bio) throws up new possibilities, not previously explored. Migration to service rather than product based business models offers many companies the scope to extend their activities profitably. The very conditions that create uncertainly also give rise to the impulse and opportunity to innovate.

The key questions are where do the opportunities lie and how might companies best take advantage of them in this uncertain environment? Collaboration with previous competitors or transition into whole new areas of emerging technology may be necessary.

The Symposium will explore these issues from the perspective of managers in large and small firms. This will include provocative examples from practice and recent research, along with guidance on how to implement new approaches. It will also consider how governments might positively influence the conditions that create opportunities for innovation.

PRINCE2 has been designed as a project management method for use on any type of project. However, it does not cover the use of very many techniques, so we are pleased to offer a course that picks up where PRINCE2 stops Project Planning and Control Techniques (PPCT). This course offers a practical, hands-on approach to a number of different techniques in everyday use.

PRINCE2 does not cover the use of any supporting tools; therefore we have adapted the Project Planning and Control Techniques course to include the use of the latest version of Microsoft Project.

PRINCE2 is a process-based approach to project management providing an easily tailored and scaleable method for the management of all types of projects. Each process is defined with key inputs and outputs together with the specific objectives to be achieved and activities to be carried out.

What is PRINCE2?:
The method describes how a project can be divided into manageable stages enabling efficient control of resources and timely progress monitoring. The various roles and responsibilities for managing a project are fully described and are adaptable to suit the project's size, complexity and the skills within the organisation. Project planning using PRINCE2 is product-based which means the project plans are focused on delivering results and are not simply about planning when the various activities for the project will be done. Driving any PRINCE2 project is the business case, which describes the organisation's justification, commitment and rationale for the deliverables or outcome. The business case is reviewed regularly during the project so as to ensure the business objectives, which may change during the lifecycle of the project, are still being met.

What are the benefits of PRINCE2?:
PRINCE2 provides organisations with a standard approach to the management of projects. The method embodies proven and established best practice. It is generic, non-proprietary and widely recognised. As well as helping the managers and directors of a project, PRINCE2 also offers benefits to the organisation as a whole. These are achieved through the controllable use of resources and the ability to manage business and project risk more effectively.

Course Objective:
This intensive course is designed to cover the PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner syllabi, and to prepare delegates for the PRINCE2 exams. The Foundation exam will be taken on the Wednesday afternoon and the Practitioner exam after an early lunch on the Friday.

Delegate Profile:
Senior managers recently appointed to project roles, or those wishing to gain formal qualifications after previous project management experience. The course would be of benefit to those with project support office or project assurance roles, team managers and Project Board members who wish to be hands-on.

They are practising project managers with considerable experience in a wide range of industry sectors. The use of hybrid trainer-managers is of great benefit to delegates and ensures that illustration and anecdotes have up-to-date validity and that the training given, whilst being true to the syllabus is also pragmatic.

Duration:
This is a five-day event including the optional PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner examinations. Delegates should be aware that considerable evening preparation and consolidation will be required by those that wish to pass the exams.
